Establishment and Development
The Fisheries Processing Technology Program was established in 2011 and received its first students in the 2011-2012 Academic Year.
Purpose of the Program
Fisheries Processing Technology Program; It is a 2-year higher education program that aims to train intermediate manpower who will know the processing methods of fishery products, can choose raw materials suitable for the processing method, apply pre-treatment to the fishery products to be processed and preserve the processed fishery products in accordance with their technique.
Program Goals
Having theoretical and applied knowledge about the fields of Fisheries Processing Technologies, having the ability to develop and deepen this knowledge at the level of expertise with original thought and research, and to reach original definitions that will bring innovation to the field, to follow the latest technologies in the field in which he has worked and to update his knowledge accordingly. It aims to train qualified intermediate staff with an associate degree who are equipped with practical knowledge and problem-solving and analytical thinking abilities and modeling skills.
Scope of the Program
In the Fisheries Processing Technology Program, students take theoretical courses related to the composition, processing, physical, chemical and microbiological analyzes of fishery products, quality control, food-related legislation and operational controls, and apply this knowledge practically in different enterprises as auxiliary staff. graduates.
For this purpose, students will be able to determine the compliance of all aquatic products, foodstuffs and materials and materials in contact with food, from production to sales, in a way that will respond to the demands of the sector, as well as to carry out the product follow-up and sampling process properly, and to be able to perform quality and control in food laboratories. knowledge and skills are given.
Fields of Study and Job Opportunities
According to the surveys conducted with the fisheries enterprises, it was determined that there is a shortage of intermediate staff in the aquaculture processing plants. In this respect, they can find jobs in positions such as technical or marketing staff in enterprises as qualified intermediate staff who have been trained on aquaculture processing technologies. In addition, they can work in the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and Provincial Directorates, aquaculture research institutes affiliated to the Ministry of Agriculture, District Directorates of Agriculture and Municipalities, as well as open private workplaces. In addition, graduates can work on the processing technologies of aquatic animal foods including mussels, shrimps, squid, freshwater fish and marine fish, and plant organisms including micro algae and macro algae that are widely produced in the world.
Vertical Transferable Undergraduate Departments
With the Vertical Transfer exam; They can switch to Fisheries Technology, Fisheries Technology Engineering, Nutrition and Dietetics, Food Engineering and Fisheries Engineering undergraduate departments. In addition, they can transfer to the Open Education Faculty Labor Economics and Industrial Relations, Economics, Public Administration, Finance, International Relations, Business Administration, Hospitality Management, Public Relations and Advertising, Public Relations and Publicity departments.
Why Choose This Program?
Considering the establishment of intensive processing factories in recent years and the exportation of most of the processed products to the European Union countries in our country, which has a great potential for fisheries products, there is a need to train and bring fisheries processing technicians to the sector as trained intermediate staff.
